AROUND THE CIRCUIT
By Dan Hendren

Well, everyone you haven't heard a lot from me lately. There just hasn't been a lot going on to say anything about. But now I have some good news for everyone. We have secured Buffalo Bowl in Canyon for one more season ending autocross. I hope to have a double point event to give us 8 point events for the year. It will be like the earlier double point event or essentially two events. Gary Fuller has a new course drawn up to drive both directions. We will give trophies for each event and award separate championship points for each event. This will be a good event so I hope everyone will want to attend. I know this is kind of short notice, but it has been a weird year. I have asked the board members to decide just exactly how to count the points for the series championships. If you have an opinion on how that should be done, please e-mail me or one of the Board members so we can make a decision so that year ending awards can be given to the deserving people.

On the National front, several of our region drivers have competed in the National Championships, both Solo II and road racing. On the road racing front our own Jay Messinger just finished fifth in Sports 2000 racing. This is a very competitive class and a fifth place finish is excellent. We wish Jay luck for next year and hope he can move past the leaders and be a Champion next year. On the Solo II national scene, we had five drivers compete at The Tire Rack Solo II National Championships at Heartland Park Topeka. Steve Sucsy in his A Stock Honda S2000 finished a respectable twentieth out of I think 60 entries. This is a very competitive finish. Steve has won a national trophy in the last few years so you know he is a driver. In Super Stock, we had two divers give it their all. Aaron Boltman and Kelly Kitchens both ran hard and although they had a little harder time than Steve, they also represented our region very well. There were 67 cars competing in Super Stock and at a national level let's just say there were plenty of sharks swimming in that pool. And last in the old guy division or maybe it is the slow guy division Terry Johnson and myself competed in E Stock. Let's just say that we got shark bitten a lot ourselves. Anyway, I think everyone that competed had a good time. I would encourage everyone to try out the nationals at least once. It is a good experience.

My next topic is next years officers. It is the time of year to decide on officers for next year. I will be retiring as Regional Executive after the end of the year, so I hope someone will step up and volunteer to keep things going. I know the new Board will be faced with several challenges not the least finding sites to run events, but it may be time for someone with new ideas to take over for awhile. I will be available to help find places or for advice if needed. I will also be available for Solo Safety Steward duties at most events. It may be difficult, but I think we should be able to get the Canyon site at least 4 to 5 times a year and by using double point events a series could be run if the new Board decided to have one. Also, with any luck the sale of Dalhart will be finalized and maybe some negotiations to run there can be completed. Anyway, I encourage everyone to step up and volunteer to be a Board member and keep the club moving forward.

My time for this article is up and I just want to thank everyone who has helped me during this year. I really appreciate it. I will see everyone in Canyon on November 11th. Have fun racing.

Dan
